ABB has introduced its latest emissions monitoring solution, the ACF5000 LCS (Low CEMS Specialist), designed to help industries meet increasingly stringent environmental regulations while improving operational efficiency and sustainability performance. The advanced monitoring system has been developed to support compliance with the European Union’s updated Industrial Emissions Directive (IED 2.0), which introduces significantly tighter industrial pollution limits across multiple sectors.

According to ABB, the ACF5000 LCS is currently the only certified low-range Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS) specifically engineered for ultra-low emission measurement applications. The system is designed to deliver extremely high levels of accuracy by detecting emissions at single-digit parts-per-million concentrations, enabling industries to monitor and control pollutants more effectively than conventional systems.

The launch comes at a time when industrial facilities across Europe are facing increasing pressure to reduce environmental impact under the EU’s Zero Pollution Action Plan. The revised IED 2.0 regulations require more advanced monitoring capabilities, and many older emission monitoring systems may no longer satisfy the updated compliance standards. As a result, industries are increasingly investing in next-generation monitoring technologies capable of delivering higher precision, improved reliability, and long-term regulatory compliance.

ABB stated that the ACF5000 LCS has been certified by TÜV according to QAL1 standards, demonstrating compliance with rigorous European quality and performance requirements for emissions monitoring systems. The technology is particularly suited for heavy industries such as waste incineration, power generation, and other energy-intensive sectors where accurate emission measurement is becoming critical for operational approval and environmental reporting.

The monitoring system combines several advanced analytical technologies to achieve its high-performance capabilities. These include Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Flame Ionization Detection (FID), and zirconia-based oxygen sensing. Together, these technologies enable simultaneous monitoring of more than 15 gas components with high precision and stability, allowing operators to maintain detailed oversight of industrial emissions in real time.

ABB explained that the system’s ability to accurately measure extremely low emission levels represents a major advancement in industrial environmental monitoring. Jean-Rene Roy, Global Business Line Manager at ABB’s Measurement & Analytics division, noted that the implementation of IED 2.0 has fundamentally changed the depth and precision required for industrial emission control. He stated that ABB’s continued investment in research and development over several decades has enabled the company to create solutions capable of measuring emission ranges up to ten times lower than previous systems.

Beyond measurement accuracy, the ACF5000 LCS also incorporates automated validation features designed to improve data reliability and minimize reporting errors. These functions help ensure that emission data remains accurate and compliant with regulatory standards, reducing operational risks for industrial facilities.

The system further integrates ABB’s digital technologies to support smarter monitoring and maintenance operations. Tools such as Genix Datalyzer and My Measurement Assistant+ with Copilot AI provide operators with advanced diagnostics, system health monitoring, predictive maintenance support, and improved process visibility. These digital capabilities are intended to help facilities reduce downtime, optimize maintenance schedules, and improve overall operational efficiency.

ABB stated that the ACF5000 LCS is designed to comply with key international standards, including EN 15267-3 certification requirements and Best Available Techniques (BAT) guidelines. The system is built to support long-term industrial use while helping companies adapt to increasingly demanding environmental regulations.

With the launch of the ACF5000 LCS, ABB continues to expand its portfolio of advanced industrial measurement and environmental monitoring technologies. The new solution highlights the growing importance of precision emissions monitoring as industries worldwide move toward stricter sustainability targets, cleaner production practices, and more transparent environmental reporting systems.
