In the historic hub of Civita Castellana, renowned for its ceramic craftsmanship, cutting-edge robotics are transforming traditional manufacturing processes. Italian ceramics, once exclusively crafted by skilled hands, are now being produced with enhanced precision and efficiency thanks to the integration of KUKA industrial robots.
GSI Ceramica, a key player in the region, has successfully installed approximately 40 robots to tackle labor-intensive tasks such as casting, glazing, and transportation. These high-tech solutions are paired with Sacmi systems to achieve millimetric accuracy in glazing and to handle materials in environments unsuitable for human workers.
The introduction of robotic systems has minimised production errors and enhanced product quality, ensuring consistent outcomes with each batch. This shift has significantly reduced the physical demands on workers, allowing them to focus on more specialised tasks and reducing the incidence of work-related injuries such as back pain.
KUKA’s involvement in the ceramic’s sector showcases the potential for robotics to refine and elevate traditional industries. The company remains at the forefront of innovation, continuously advancing manufacturing practices across various sectors.
As manufacturing processes evolve, GSI Ceramica’s adoption of automation reflects a broader trend within the industry, highlighting the balance between maintaining artisanal quality and embracing technological advancements.
