Rolls-Royce and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited have expanded their joint venture manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, reinforcing India’s growing position in the global aerospace manufacturing and supply chain ecosystem. The expansion of International Aerospace Manufacturing Private Limited (IAMPL) marks another significant milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen domestic aerospace production capabilities and increase participation in advanced jet engine manufacturing programs.

The expanded facility includes a newly developed 12-acre manufacturing site focused on producing advanced jet engine compressor and turbine components for both domestic and international aerospace programs. The development is aimed at supporting rising aviation supply chain requirements while enhancing India’s role as a strategic manufacturing hub for high-precision aerospace components.

IAMPL, a 50:50 joint venture between Rolls-Royce and HAL, has been manufacturing precision-machined and special-processed jet engine components since 2012. Over the years, the facility has evolved into an important contributor to Rolls-Royce’s global aerospace supply chain while also supporting requirements from other engine manufacturers operating in the aviation sector.

According to Rolls-Royce, the latest expansion will significantly enhance IAMPL’s production capacity and technical capabilities for both civil and defense aerospace programs. The upgraded infrastructure is expected to support increasing demand for advanced engine components used in next-generation aerospace applications, including high-performance compressor and turbine systems that require exceptional machining precision and process control.

The Hosur expansion follows earlier operational growth initiatives undertaken by the company in 2024, when manufacturing activities were expanded in Bengaluru to support components for the Trent engine family. Together, these developments highlight Rolls-Royce’s long-term commitment to increasing manufacturing and sourcing activities within India.

Sashi Mukundan stated that the facility has become an important manufacturing location within Rolls-Royce’s global production ecosystem. He emphasized that the company intends to significantly increase sourcing from India as part of its future aerospace programs and strategic industrial partnerships.

The expansion aligns closely with Rolls-Royce’s broader ‘Make in India’ strategy, which focuses on strengthening India’s aerospace and defense manufacturing ecosystem through long-term investment, technology development and supply chain integration. The company has consistently identified India as a strategic home market with strong potential for engineering, manufacturing and advanced industrial collaboration.

The new facility was formally inaugurated by Sashi Mukundan, HAL Chairman and Managing Director Ravi and IAMPL CEO Seenivasan Balasubramanian.

Industry experts believe the expansion reflects the accelerating trend toward aerospace manufacturing localization in India, particularly in areas involving high-precision engine components, advanced materials processing and defense-related systems. As global aerospace companies increasingly diversify supply chains and seek reliable manufacturing partners, India is emerging as an important destination for advanced aerospace production and engineering capabilities.

The development is also expected to contribute significantly to supplier ecosystem growth, advanced manufacturing adoption and export-oriented aerospace production within the country. Investments of this nature help strengthen India’s position in the global aerospace value chain while creating opportunities for local suppliers, precision engineering companies and skilled manufacturing professionals.

With the expanded Hosur facility, Rolls-Royce and HAL continue to deepen their industrial collaboration while supporting India’s ambitions to become a globally competitive aerospace manufacturing hub for both civil and defense aviation programs.
