ABB expands Bengaluru footprint with new manufacturing and technology facilities!
ABB is strengthening its presence in India with the expansion of its manufacturing and technology infrastructure in Bengaluru. The company has inaugurated new facilities across its Motion, Electrification and Automation businesses, reinforcing its long-term commitment to India as a key growth market.
The expansion includes new developments at ABB’s Peenya campus, where two manufacturing facilities spanning approximately 6,100 square metres have been established. These units are designed to accommodate up to 300 employees and will focus on producing energy-efficient motors, including flameproof variants, as well as low-voltage drives. The facilities also incorporate a dedicated service and training centre equipped with digital tools, enabling customers and engineers to enhance technical capabilities and operational efficiency.
This development is part of ABB’s broader “local-for-local” strategy, aimed at strengthening domestic manufacturing while bringing advanced technologies closer to Indian customers. According to company leadership, the initiative supports industries in improving energy efficiency, accelerating digital transformation and contributing to infrastructure growth across the country.
In addition to the Peenya expansion, ABB has also developed a major hub at its Nelamangala campus. The new facility, covering around 16,470 square metres, is designed to support production for the Electrification and Automation sectors. It will play a key role in enabling solutions for data centres and industrial applications, including advanced power protection, blending and excitation systems.
The expansion reflects a significant investment push by ABB in India, with a total planned investment of approximately $75 million in 2026, building on an earlier $35 million commitment. This continued investment highlights the company’s confidence in India’s industrial growth trajectory and its role as a global manufacturing hub.
ABB’s growing footprint in Karnataka now includes three manufacturing locations and a workforce of more than 3,000 employees in the state. The company has been operating in India for over 140 years and continues to play a critical role in advancing industrial automation, electrification and sustainable technologies.
A notable impact of ABB’s operations in India is its contribution to energy efficiency. The company’s motors and drives currently help deliver approximately 20 terawatt-hours of energy savings annually, supporting industries in reducing energy consumption and lowering carbon emissions.
The new facilities are also expected to contribute to skill development and local talent growth. By integrating manufacturing, service and training capabilities within the same ecosystem, ABB aims to build a strong pipeline of skilled professionals capable of supporting advanced industrial technologies.
Overall, ABB’s expansion in Bengaluru underscores its strategic focus on localisation, sustainability and digital innovation. By investing in advanced manufacturing and R&D capabilities, the company is positioning itself to support India’s evolving industrial landscape while contributing to a more efficient and sustainable future.
