SmartCAM has released its latest version, SmartCAM v2026, bringing a range of enhancements designed to improve CNC programming efficiency, automation and overall productivity for manufacturers. The update focuses on smarter tool management, improved grouping capabilities and expanded automation features to support increasingly complex machining environments.

One of the key upgrades in SmartCAM v2026 is the enhancement of tool home position functionality. The software now supports live tool home positioning in addition to previously supported tool types, enabling better control in multi-axis and mill-turn applications. New radial and axial tool orientation settings have also been introduced, allowing users to define precise tool alignment when positioned at the home location. These improvements help ensure more accurate tool movements and reduce the risk of errors during setup and machining.

The release also introduces significant improvements to group functions. A new named-groups manager allows users to organize and combine multiple groups more effectively, making it easier to manage complex machining operations. This feature is particularly useful for large programs where multiple operations need to be structured and controlled efficiently.

In addition, SmartCAM has expanded its macro capabilities through enhancements to its MCL (Macro Command Language). New macro commands have been introduced to improve group management and automation workflows. These updates allow users to create more flexible and powerful automation routines, reducing manual programming effort and improving consistency across operations.

Productivity is further enhanced through new mask and hide options integrated directly into the job operations manager. Users can now hide or mask specific elements within a project, allowing them to focus on relevant operations without visual clutter. This feature simplifies program navigation and helps operators work more efficiently, especially when dealing with complex part geometries or multi-operation setups.

Automation improvements are another major highlight of the v2026 release. Updates to CTK (Custom ToolKit) and MCL automation functions enable regeneration support for several SmartCAM processes. This means that changes can be applied dynamically without requiring complete reprogramming, saving time and improving workflow flexibility.

The macro command used to create regenerative containers has also been enhanced, making it easier to reuse and adapt existing programming logic. Additionally, SmartCAM has expanded the search paths for CTK automation macros, improving accessibility and integration of custom automation scripts.

A notable addition in this release is the inclusion of rotation support within the define plane rotation tools. This enhancement expands the software’s capability in handling complex geometries and multi-axis machining operations, allowing users to program with greater flexibility and precision.

User experience has also been improved with the addition of a preview feature in the most recently used (MRU) file list. Users can now hover over PM5 files to view previews, making it easier to identify and select the correct file quickly. Furthermore, a new numeric format option has been introduced to provide better control over how decimal values are output, ensuring compatibility with different machine requirements and programming standards.

Overall, SmartCAM v2026 reflects the growing need for advanced, automation-driven CNC programming solutions. By combining improved tool control, enhanced automation capabilities and user-friendly features, the latest release helps manufacturers streamline programming workflows, reduce setup time and achieve higher productivity in modern machining environments.
