The Dreadnought programme is a testament to British engineering prowess, backing nearly 30,000 jobs across the UK. With a supply chain spend of £7.5 billion distributed among 1,500 companies, this initiative represents one of the world’s most intricate engineering undertakings.

The Dreadnought Class will be the Royal Navy’s largest, most powerful, and technologically advanced submarines when they come into service in the early 2030s. Ensuring these vessels meet their ambitious benchmarks, BAE Systems has led a significant investment surge at its Barrow shipyard, committing over £1 billion to modern technology and advanced infrastructure. An additional £450 million is slated for investment throughout the programme, guaranteeing the project’s continuous evolution.

Advancements at the Barrow shipyard were highlighted earlier this week when a substantial steel structure, destined for one of the Dreadnought submarines, was transported through the streets of Barrow. This noteworthy sight underscores the tangible progress being made on the programme.

BAE Systems’ investments are not just about creating cutting-edge submarines. They reflect a deep commitment to bolstering the UK manufacturing industry, providing extensive support to the national supply chain, and fostering long-term job growth. Such investments underline the significance of the Dreadnought programme for both the Royal Navy and the broader UK economy.

BAE Systems is a key player in the global defence industry, renowned for its innovative solutions and significant contributions to national security.
