Airbus has inaugurated a new technology center in Bengaluru designed to expand its engineering capabilities, digital innovation initiatives and aviation support services linked to its global aircraft programs. The Airbus India Technology Center covers approximately 880,000 square feet and has the capacity to accommodate around 5,000 employees, making it one of the company’s largest engineering hubs outside Europe.

The new campus brings together engineering teams, digital technology specialists, customer service operations and procurement functions within a single integrated facility. By consolidating these activities, Airbus aims to strengthen its support for worldwide aircraft and helicopter programs while deepening its long-term industrial presence in India.

According to Jürgen Westermeier, President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia, the new center will significantly enhance Airbus’ ability to expand engineering capabilities while improving support services and procurement operations across the company’s global network. Engineers working at the Bengaluru center will contribute to the full life cycle of Airbus aircraft and helicopter programs.

Their responsibilities will include aircraft design, product development and engineering support as well as activities related to fleet maintenance, upgrades and operational performance improvements. These contributions will support Airbus programs operating across commercial aviation, helicopters and defence sectors.

The facility will also focus on advanced digital technologies that are increasingly transforming the aviation industry. Airbus engineers will work on projects involving artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity and digital engineering platforms. These technologies are playing an important role in areas such as predictive maintenance, aircraft performance monitoring and operational efficiency improvements.

Another key objective of the center is to strengthen India’s aviation talent ecosystem. The facility will provide opportunities for Indian engineers to work on complex aerospace projects while gaining exposure to global aircraft development programs. This is particularly important as the aviation industry continues to grow and requires a highly skilled workforce to support expanding fleets and advanced aircraft technologies.

India’s aviation sector is currently among the fastest growing in the world. As airlines increase fleet sizes over the coming decade, the demand for skilled engineers, technicians and aviation specialists is expected to rise significantly. The Bengaluru technology hub will help support this growth by contributing to engineering development and maintenance support capabilities.

The campus will also host a local chapter of Airbus Leadership University. This initiative will provide specialized training programs and leadership development opportunities aimed at preparing the next generation of aerospace engineers, managers and industry professionals.

In addition, the facility will include a dedicated customer services center that supports Airbus aircraft operators worldwide. Services offered from the center will include technical troubleshooting, maintenance advisory assistance and flight-hour service programs designed to help airlines maintain operational reliability and reduce aircraft downtime.

The Bengaluru center will also play a role in Airbus’ procurement and supply chain coordination activities in India. The company has significantly expanded sourcing from Indian suppliers in recent years, with annual procurement rising from approximately $500 million in 2019 to more than $1.5 billion today. Airbus expects sourcing from India to exceed $2 billion before the end of the decade.

With the launch of the new technology center, Airbus aims to strengthen its engineering network while reinforcing India’s position as a strategic hub for aerospace innovation, engineering services and supply chain collaboration.
