RRP Electronics Ltd has announced the allocation of approximately 101 acres of industrial land in Khalapur Phase-3, Maharashtra, for the development of a large integrated semiconductor manufacturing and advanced packaging campus. The project represents a major step in the company’s long-term strategy to establish a comprehensive semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India.

The proposed campus will be designed to accommodate multiple Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) production lines, advanced wafer-level packaging facilities and potential semiconductor fabrication units in the future. By integrating these capabilities within a single industrial location, RRP Electronics aims to strengthen operational coordination while enabling scalable capacity expansion as demand grows.

According to Rajendra Chodankar, Chairman of RRP Electronics Ltd, the allocation of the 101-acre land parcel marks a foundational milestone in the company’s efforts to build a large-scale semiconductor manufacturing hub in Maharashtra. The development will be implemented in phases, gradually bringing together packaging, advanced wafer-level packaging and potential fabrication facilities as the project progresses and required approvals are obtained.

The company’s long-term vision is to create an integrated semiconductor campus that supports a significant portion of the semiconductor value chain within India. Such a facility would help strengthen the country’s manufacturing capabilities while positioning India as a reliable semiconductor production destination for global technology companies.

The Khalapur campus will focus initially on semiconductor packaging and assembly operations, which are essential stages in the semiconductor manufacturing process. Advanced wafer-level packaging technologies will also be developed to support modern semiconductor devices that require higher performance, improved thermal management and compact form factors.

Beyond production capabilities, the campus is expected to support research and development activities aimed at advancing semiconductor technologies for multiple industrial sectors. These include automotive electronics, industrial automation systems, telecommunications infrastructure and consumer electronics products.

The integrated campus approach is intended to improve efficiency across manufacturing operations by reducing logistical complexity and enabling closer coordination between different stages of semiconductor production. Consolidating packaging, advanced packaging and potential fabrication within the same location can help streamline production workflows while enabling faster scaling of manufacturing capacity.

The project aligns closely with the goals of India’s semiconductor development initiatives, particularly the India Semiconductor Mission, which aims to build a robust domestic semiconductor ecosystem. By establishing advanced semiconductor manufacturing infrastructure within the country, the initiative supports the broader vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, focused on strengthening self-reliance in critical technology sectors.

With the global semiconductor industry experiencing strong demand across sectors such as electric vehicles, telecommunications, artificial intelligence and consumer electronics, investments like the Khalapur campus are expected to play a key role in expanding India’s role within the global semiconductor supply chain.
