CMZ, a prominent name in CNC lathe manufacturing, has unveiled crucial guidance aimed at extending the lifespan of CNC machinery. The company’s experts emphasise the importance of checking the chemical compatibility between oils and coolants as part of their preventive maintenance programme.
A common issue arises when incompatible fluids are used, leading to the degradation or dissolution of slideway oil into the coolant. This can significantly reduce the oil’s lubricating capacity and leave mechanical components at risk. To combat this, CMZ recommends ensuring a correct combination of oil and coolant that does not allow the slideway oil to solubilise. This ensures optimal lubrication and protection of essential components.
CMZ proposes a simple yet effective check to ascertain compatibility. Users are advised to mix equal volumes of coolant and slideway oil in a clear plastic bottle. After shaking and allowing it to stand for a few minutes, a clear separation of the two liquids indicates adequate compatibility. Conversely, a homogeneous mixture suggests potential incompatibility, warranting consultation with oil and coolant suppliers for alternatives.
This initiative is part of six preventive maintenance recommendations formulated by CMZ’s engineers, underscoring the company’s commitment to enhancing machine performance and durability.
CMZ continues to be a leader in the CNC machinery sector, offering innovative solutions to optimise manufacturing processes and equipment maintenance.
