Tormach has introduced the upgraded 770MX CNC mill, bringing higher spindle power, faster motion control and a range of operator-focused enhancements aimed at improving productivity and machining consistency. Designed for manufacturers, educators and R&D teams that require strong performance within a compact footprint, the 770MX builds on the strengths of its predecessor while addressing demands for shorter cycle times, improved control and greater ease of use.

At the core of the 770MX upgrade is a significant improvement in motion and control architecture. The machine features an absolute encoder EtherCAT servo motion system paired with an EtherCAT-based control platform for both the spindle and linear axes. This setup enables faster, more responsive motion while delivering precise, closed-loop feedback across all axes. The result is smoother acceleration, improved positioning accuracy and more consistent machining performance, particularly during high-speed or multi-axis movements.

Spindle capability has also been enhanced to support more demanding cutting operations. The 770MX delivers 2 horsepower of continuous spindle power and up to 4.5 horsepower of peak intermittent power, while still operating on standard single-phase electrical supply. This allows users to take deeper cuts, run more aggressive feeds and process a wider range of materials without upgrading shop power infrastructure. The increased spindle performance expands the machine’s suitability for applications beyond prototyping, supporting light production, tooling and fixture work.

Motion performance improvements further contribute to productivity gains. Maximum feed rates now reach 450 inches per minute in the X and Y axes and 420 inches per minute in the Z axis. These higher feed rates help reduce non-cutting time and shorten overall cycle times, particularly in programs with frequent rapid moves. Despite these performance upgrades, the 770MX maintains a compact working envelope of 14 inches in X, 7.5 inches in Y and 13.25 inches in Z, making it well suited for space-constrained shops and lab environments.

Alongside performance improvements, Tormach has incorporated several enhancements aimed at improving daily operation and usability. The 770MX now includes a 21.5-inch PathPilot touchscreen operator console as standard, providing a modern interface for program control, setup and monitoring. Built-in load meters for the spindle and axes give operators real-time feedback on cutting conditions, helping prevent overloads and optimize machining parameters.

Additional refinements address common shop-floor needs. An integrated air gun mounted at the front of the enclosure improves chip management and part cleaning. Improved side-loading windows enhance accessibility, while a door latch is now included as standard equipment. The machine also features dedicated mounting locations for tool holder racks and Wall Control-compatible storage solutions, supporting better organization and workflow efficiency.

The 770MX is offered in two primary configurations to match different user preferences. A factory-assembled version includes an automatic tool changer and flood coolant system for turnkey operation. Alternatively, a self-assembled option is available for users who prefer on-site assembly, shipping the machine in components.

According to Tormach, the latest iteration of the 770MX reflects a philosophy of continuous, user-driven improvement. By increasing power, speed and usability without increasing the price, the updated CNC mill is positioned as a versatile solution that delivers higher capability, confidence and value for machinists across a broad range of applications.
