L&T Vyoma Initiates Construction of Green AI Data Centre Campus in Navi Mumbai!
L&T Vyoma marked a major milestone in India’s digital infrastructure journey by commencing work on a 40 MW AI-ready green data centre in Mahape, Navi Mumbai, following a Bhoomi Pujan ceremony held in January 2026. The facility forms part of a larger 100 MW data centre campus and reflects the company’s ambition to set new benchmarks in sustainable, scalable and resilient digital infrastructure as India’s demand for cloud services and artificial intelligence workloads continues to rise.
The Mahape data centre was conceived to support high-density computing requirements for Build-to-Suit customers, large enterprises and emerging NeoCloud providers. Designed from the ground up for AI and mission-critical workloads, the facility incorporates Direct-to-Chip Liquid Cooling technology, enabling efficient thermal management for power-intensive AI applications while significantly reducing overall energy consumption. This approach supports low-carbon operations and aligns with the growing need for environmentally responsible digital infrastructure.
The project was positioned as a cornerstone of L&T Vyoma’s strategy to deliver AI-ready infrastructure that combines performance, resilience and sustainability. By integrating advanced cooling systems and planning for the use of renewable energy, the data centre aims to reduce environmental impact while maintaining the reliability and scalability required for next-generation digital services. The broader 100 MW campus is intended to support long-term capacity expansion as customer demand grows.
Speaking at the ceremony, R Shankar Raman, President, Whole-time Director and CFO of Larsen & Toubro, highlighted the strategic importance of digital infrastructure in national development. He noted that through L&T Vyoma, the group was leveraging its deep engineering expertise to build a sovereign and sustainable digital ecosystem, ensuring that India’s digital growth is powered by world-class, indigenous capabilities. The Navi Mumbai project, he said, embodied the vision of Vyoma—limitless, intelligent and sustainable digital growth.
Navi Mumbai was emphasised as a strategically significant location for India’s digital economy due to its strong connectivity, proximity to financial and enterprise hubs, and established infrastructure ecosystem. Prashant Chiranjive Jain, Head – Corporate Centre at Larsen & Toubro, stated that the Mahape development was designed to meet the demanding performance requirements of generative AI while remaining firmly anchored in low-carbon and sustainable operations, setting a new reference point for AI-ready infrastructure in the region.
The Mahape facility also strengthened L&T Vyoma’s expanding data centre portfolio and aligned with its three-pillar growth strategy. This strategy focuses on hyperscale campuses for global cloud providers, AI-centric infrastructure platforms, and a comprehensive colocation offering for enterprises. With plans to scale beyond 200 MW of capacity across major Indian digital hubs, L&T Vyoma positioned the Navi Mumbai project as a key building block in supporting innovation, resilience and sustainability across India’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
