ROHM Co., Ltd. and Tata Electronics Announce Strategic Alliance to Strengthen Semiconductor Manufacturing in India!
ROHM Co., Ltd., a global semiconductor and electronics company headquartered in Japan, and Tata Electronics have announced a strategic collaboration to strengthen semiconductor manufacturing capabilities in India for both domestic and international markets. The partnership brings together ROHM’s advanced power semiconductor technologies and Tata Electronics’ rapidly expanding backend assembly and test capabilities, reinforcing cooperation between the Japanese and Indian semiconductor ecosystems.
As the first phase of collaboration, the two companies will establish a power semiconductor manufacturing setup in India. The initiative combines ROHM’s device and power semiconductor expertise with Tata Electronics’ state-of-the-art assembly and test infrastructure. In parallel, the partners plan to align their sales networks and customer channels to expand market reach and deliver higher-value semiconductor solutions.
As an initial execution milestone, Tata Electronics will undertake assembly and testing of ROHM’s automotive-grade, India-designed N-channel 100V, 300A silicon MOSFET in a TOLL package, with mass production shipments targeted to begin next year. The companies will also jointly evaluate opportunities for co-developing advanced packaging technologies, with products from the collaboration to be jointly marketed.
The alliance aligns closely with India’s national priorities, including Make in India and “Designed in India, Manufactured in India.” By building an integrated ecosystem covering design, development, manufacturing, assembly, and test within India, the collaboration aims to increase domestic value addition, strengthen supply-chain resilience, and ensure a stable, locally optimised supply of semiconductor products while serving global demand.
Commenting on the collaboration, Randhir Thakur, CEO & Managing Director of Tata Electronics, said the partnership supports Tata Electronics’ vision of building a robust and globally competitive semiconductor ecosystem in India, leveraging advanced packaging capabilities to serve both Indian and international markets.
Kazuhide Ino, Member of the Board and Managing Executive Officer at ROHM, added that working with Tata Electronics enables expansion of ROHM’s India-manufactured product portfolio and contributes to a sustainable, regionally diversified semiconductor supply chain, addressing rising demand for locally produced devices.
Established in 2020 as a greenfield venture of the Tata Group, Tata Electronics is rapidly expanding capabilities across Electronics Manufacturing Services, Semiconductor Assembly & Test, Semiconductor Foundry, and Design Services, positioning itself as a key player in India’s evolving semiconductor value chain.
