Satyakam Arya, the current Managing Director & CEO of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), has been named the next President and Chief Executive Officer of Hino Motors, effective April 1, 2026*. In this new role, Mr. Arya will steer Hino Motors’ global operations from Tokyo, Japan, playing a central part in the strategic integration of Mitsubishi Fuso and Hino Motors under Daimler Truck and Toyota Motor Corporation. His appointment reflects a significant moment in the creation of a unified, future-ready commercial vehicle powerhouse.
Throughout his tenure at DICV, Mr. Arya has been recognised for his strategic clarity, execution excellence, and strong customer-first approach. Achim Puchert, Member of the Board of Management at Daimler Truck Holding AG, praised his leadership, describing him as an exceptional leader with the vision and capability to guide Hino Motors into its next era of growth and innovation. His tenure at DICV is marked by transformative initiatives, operational strengthening, and a sustained focus on value creation.
Under Mr. Arya’s leadership, DICV achieved record profitability across both its truck and bus segments. The company doubled its customer base and expanded its dealership network dramatically—from 182 outlets to more than 385 touchpoints across India—significantly improving market access and customer support. DICV also took noteworthy steps toward sustainability, becoming the first commercial vehicle manufacturer in India to shift fully to renewable energy sources. The company’s manufacturing excellence was further recognised through the IGBC Green Factory Building V2 certification for its Oragadam facility.
A consistent focus on innovation defined Mr. Arya’s leadership. DICV introduced EU-standard ECE R29-03 cabin compliance, marking a safety milestone for the Indian commercial vehicle industry. The company launched AMT tippers with TorqShift technology and expanded its portfolio with the HX Series, all while ensuring a seamless transition to BS VI OBD2 standards. These technological advancements reinforced DICV’s position as a pioneer in engineering excellence. At the cultural level, Mr. Arya championed the “BharatBenz Way,” a philosophy rooted in total quality management (TQM), collaboration, and continuous improvement—values that have strengthened BharatBenz’s reputation for reliability, customer focus, and operational discipline.
Reflecting on his new role, Mr. Arya described the opportunity to lead Hino Motors at this transformative juncture as a profound honour. He emphasised his commitment to advancing Hino’s eight-decade legacy while contributing to the broader evolution of the global commercial vehicle industry. He expressed confidence that the strong foundation created at DICV will enable the organisation to continue its growth momentum as India’s commercial vehicle landscape enters an exciting phase.
This transition also marks a significant personal milestone for Mr. Arya, who previously spent four years in Japan with Daimler Truck Asia. His return brings full-circle his extensive experience in global commercial vehicle operations. Succession planning for his role at DICV is currently underway and is expected to be announced soon.
DICV, a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG, manufactures and sells BharatBenz trucks ranging from 10 to 55 tons, BharatBenz buses, and Mercedes-Benz coaches from its state-of-the-art 400-acre Oragadam facility near Chennai. The plant also serves as the R&D and training headquarters and produces FUSO, Mercedes-Benz, and Freightliner vehicles for export to over 60 markets across Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.
