STMicroelectronics and ENGIE Power Up with a 21-Year Renewable Energy Partnership in Malaysia!

STMicroelectronics (ST), a global leader in semiconductor solutions, has entered a long-term renewable energy partnership with BKH Solar, a joint venture of ENGIE Renewable SEA and Conextone Energy, to support the sustainable energy needs of ST’s Muar site in Johor, Malaysia. Starting in 2025, the deal will annually deliver approximately 50 GWh of renewable energy from a new solar farm located in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah. This initiative forms part of Malaysia’s Corporate Green Power Program and serves as a cornerstone in ST’s sustainability journey, aiming to power its facilities with 100% renewable energy and achieve carbon neutrality by 2027.

As part of ST’s sustainability roadmap, this agreement signals the company’s first renewable energy commitment in Asia, advancing its environmental stewardship goals in a region crucial to its production and growth. Geoff West, Executive Vice President of STMicroelectronics, emphasized the impact of this partnership: “This agreement is transformative for ST as we accelerate toward our sustainability targets. It underscores our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and creating a lasting, positive impact through renewable energy.”

Amit Jain, Managing Director of ENGIE Southeast Asia, echoed this commitment, noting, “We are proud to support ST in its green energy transition. ENGIE’s focus on providing clean, sustainable energy aligns with ST’s environmental goals, and we are excited to help power their journey to carbon neutrality.”

The renewable energy supply will play a vital role in advancing ST’s eco-friendly operations at its Muar site, a facility housing over 4,700 employees and a focal point for automotive semiconductor solutions. The integration of solar power at this location not only supports ST’s carbon reduction objectives but also enhances its dedication to sustainable practices in semiconductor manufacturing. With a mix of energy-efficient designs and operational strategies, STMicroelectronics is strategically positioned to reduce its carbon footprint across all regions, with the Muar site exemplifying these efforts.
