Siemens has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Altair Engineering Inc. known for its advanced simulation, high-performance computing, and data science software, will significantly enhance Siemens’ capabilities in industrial software. This acquisition is aimed at strengthening Siemens’ position in industrial software by integrating Altair’s solutions into the Siemens Xcelerator platform, creating a comprehensive AI-driven design and simulation portfolio.
Roland Busch, CEO of Siemens, described the acquisition as a transformative step for the company, enabling clients to better bridge digital and physical operations. Busch emphasized that Altair’s expertise in simulation and data science aligns with Siemens’ goals of advancing digital and sustainability transformations for its industrial customers. Siemens CFO Ralf Thomas added that the transaction is in line with Siemens’ capital allocation strategy, noting it will enhance earnings per share within two years.
James Scapa, CEO of Altair, expressed enthusiasm for the acquisition, describing it as the culmination of Altair’s growth from a startup to a global leader in simulation and data science. He highlighted Siemens’ extensive technology base and global industrial reach as ideal resources to further Altair’s work in computational intelligence and support its commitment to innovation.
The transaction, financed entirely through Siemens’ resources, is anticipated to close in the latter half of 2025, pending regulatory approval. This acquisition marks a strategic expansion for Siemens in the high-demand fields of simulation, AI, and data science, further solidifying its leadership in industrial digitalization.
