Shunk – Sensory quick-change pallet module increases process transparency

Clamping Technology

In the course of digitalization in production, the trend is towards fully automated, fully networked, and autonomously acting manufacturing systems. Of course, this trend has an influence on clamping technology: the VERO-S NSE-S3 138 sees SCHUNK present for the first time a sensory quick-change pallet module that allows permanent monitoring of the pull-down force and the clamping slide position. Moreover, the presence of the workpieces, or clamping pallets can be monitored. Strain gauges, measuring amplifiers, and inductive sensors are directly integrated in the module, and the module has the same dimensions as the conventional clamping module VERO-S NSE3. The sensory quick-change pallet module creates the prerequisites for a consistent real-time analysis of the clamping situation, and provides important parameters for process optimization. The voltage supply (24 V DC) and signal output (analog 0-10 V DC, digital 0/24 V DC) is reliable and straightforward via spring contacts.

Cone seal and anti-twist protection are optionally available

The sensory quick-change pallet module is part of the extensive SCHUNK VERO-S modular system, which enables more than 1,000 possible combinations for efficient workpiece clamping. Like its conventional counterpart, it has a patented dual stroke system and achieves pull-down forces of up to 28,000 N with activated turbo function. It is fixed or positioned by means of a short taper with a repeat accuracy of < 0.005 mm. Due to the insertion radii, the clamping pins can be easily fitted into the modules: eccentrically or with an angle of inclination. The actual clamping is done without any external energy supply via spring force; it is form-fit and self-retaining. The workpieces therefore remain safely clamped in the case of a sudden pressure drop in the air system. A pneumatic system pressure of 6 bar is enough to open the clamping module. Optionally, the change interface can be equipped with a spring-actuated cone seal that automatically locks the module as soon as the clamping pin is lifted out. For use as a single clamping module SCHUNK offers the VERO-S NSE-S3 in two variants with anti-twist protection: Either with a fixed, defined position (V1) or with the option to rotate the pallets in 90° increments (V4), so that the position of the pallet assembly can vary by 0°, 90°, 180° or 270°. Depending on the thread diameter of the clamping pins have holding forces of 35,000 N (M10), 50,000 N (M12), or 75,000 N (M16). All components, such as base bodies, clamping pins, and clamping slide, are made of hardened stainless steel, making them absolutely corrosion-resistant and long-lasting.
