High-quality linear drives increase the performance of medical diagnostic and laboratory devices

They have to run smoothly and extremely reliably: high demands are placed on the linear drives of medical diagnostic and laboratory devices. NSK’s motion control solutions create a prerequisite for the construction of diagnostic systems that deliver clear and consistent real-time results – a property that is of great importance in times of pandemic.

Linear drives are a typical drive element in medical diagnostic devices. They are used because they are characterized by greater rigidity and lower friction compared to spindle and belt drives. In addition, they meet the requirements that are made here of parameters such as torque, speed and dimensions.

A long service life is also important from the point of view of manufacturers and users. This is the only way to achieve uninterrupted operation over long periods of time and, if necessary, in 24/7 operation with very short cycle times.

To ensure that these factors are fully taken into account, NSK engineers develop tailor-made drive solutions for such applications – for example linear actuators with pre-assembled stepper or servo motors. Optional special equipment such as lubrication systems or a special surface treatment are often used in these units. They ensure permanently adequate lubrication and low-friction movements, which also mean that the drives wear less and require less maintenance.

Diagnostic devices with high-quality drives, as developed by NSK, also have a benefit for patients: low-friction linear movements enable more precise recordings, for example in imaging procedures, which can lead to more precise diagnoses and ultimately to improved treatment.

Another application example is a blood analyzer that has to process large quantities of samples in a short period of time while providing accurate results efficiently. This is where the monocarrier linear drives from NSK prove their worth. They are characterized by extremely smooth running, low vibrations, high rigidity and a long service life. They are also available in miniature versions for extremely compact constructions.

Numerous regulations and requirements must be observed throughout medical technology. Since the drive systems from NSK ultimately have an impact on the quality and speed of patient treatment, the highest standards apply here, for example throughout production and the manufacturer’s quality management. In order to meet these requirements and to achieve optimal results for everyone involved – device manufacturers, users in hospitals, medical practices and laboratories and of course for patients – the device manufacturer should seek cooperation with a provider who has extensive experience in developing solutions for medical technology. NSK can demonstrate this experience – even in very critical fields of application such as high-precision linear actuators for pumping movements in artificial,
