Rowan Easter-Robinson from MTDCNC is at the annual Southern Manufacturing exhibition UK with Managing Director Chris from Guhring. Chris talks about the full facility of design, testing, printing and retipping that Guhring offers.
Although the company is well-known for world-class drilling, milling, quality coating, tapping and so on, they also manufacture and retip PCD and CBN cutting tools in the UK. Using 3D metal and plastic printing, they can provide a concept design and then work on printed bodies or carbide bodies. They work to achieve maximum accuracy with PCD cutters.
Chris talks about why it’s important to be spot on with PCD and how every tool is completely balanced, allowing for minimum vibration when running at high-surface speeds.
Chris also shares that PCD tools run faster and last longer than carbides, so they are a big investment at high volume but totally worth the price. Typically, Guhring’s customers include high-volume producers such as big automotive companies. However, 3D printing helps to reduce setup times and manufacture PCD at very competitive prices.
